The ongoing local government elections in Rivers State have turned violent with heavy gunshots in the Rumuepirikom community, the home of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

According to Vanguard, some unidentified persons had entered the community before the election and announced that people should not come out.
However, when the electoral officers were about to arrive at the ward in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, armed men suspected to be political thugs invaded the place.
