MURTALA SULE GARO’S EXPERIENCE, CAPACITY AND GRASSROOTS CONNECTION MAKE HIM STAND OUT
By Abba/Garo Youth and Students Mobilization Forum
Our attention has been drawn to discussions arising from a recent edition of the Siyasar Zamani programme on DCL Hausa, where political commentators deliberated on the qualifications of potential deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 general elections in Kano State.
Abba/Garo Youth and Students Mobilization Forum sees no ground for comparison between H.E Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo and any amateur politician imposed as a deputy governor candidate in an associated political movement.
While we respect the right of citizens and political analysts to express their opinions, the Abba/Garo Youth and Students Mobilization Forum believes that any assessment of political leaders should be based on verifiable records, public service experience, leadership capacity, and contributions to society.
Viewed from these perspectives, His Excellency Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo possesses an outstanding political and administrative profile that has been built through years of dedication, service, and grassroots engagement.
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo’s political journey did not begin at the top. Like many successful leaders, he rose through the ranks, gaining valuable experience at every stage of his career. From serving as a Personal Assistant to the Chairman of Kabo Local Government, to becoming Organizing Secretary of a major political party, and later serving as the democratically elected Chairman of Kabo Local Government, his leadership development has been gradual and practical.
His outstanding performance at the local government level earned him the confidence of his colleagues, leading to his emergence as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State Chapter, during the administration of Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
His administrative competence was further demonstrated when he was appointed Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, a position he held for eight years under the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Managing one of the most sensitive ministries in Kano State for such a lengthy period reflects the confidence reposed in him and his ability to deliver results.
In 2023 he aspired for governorship ticket under the giant All Progressives Congress, but accepted the deputy governor candidate via consensus, further affirming his political relevance and acceptance across Kano State. Today, he serves as the Deputy Governor of Kano State, where he continues to contribute to governance and public service.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had chosen him as the deputy after rigorous scrutiny and found him merit and capable for the office, not simply as a result of any undue influence.
Throughout his years in public office, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has been associated with policies and initiatives that supported infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, women development, traditional institutions, peace building, and community engagement.
One of his greatest strengths remains his connection with the grassroots. His political influence is not confined to government offices alone; it is rooted in years of direct engagement with communities, youth groups, students, traditional leaders, and political stakeholders across the state.
Leadership requires experience, vision, administrative capacity, and the ability to mobilize people toward a common goal. These qualities are developed over time through practical involvement in governance and public service.
As youths and students committed to the progress of Kano State, we believe discussions about leadership should be based on facts, performance, experience, and proven capacity. Public office is a serious responsibility that demands competence and a deep understanding of governance.
For these reasons, the Abba/Garo Youth and Students Mobilization Forum remains confident that His Excellency Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo’s extensive experience, political maturity, and record of public service distinguished him as one of the most accomplished political leaders of his generation in Kano State.
We therefore encourage political commentators and the general public to evaluate leaders based on their records, contributions, and ability to deliver meaningful development to the people.
Signed:
