
KTC wins Sam Okwaraji Under-16 soccer tourney
….To represent Kano at zonal stage

Government College Kano formerly known as KTC has emerged winners of the maiden edition of Samuel Okwaraji Under-16 National All Secondary Schools championship after beating it’s Government Secondary School, Gyadi Gyadi 4-3.
The championship is bankroll by First Bank Plc and organized by Samuel Okwaraji Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian Football Federation NFF and the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation NSSF is aims to identify hidden talents players at the grassroots level.
The match played at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar mata attracted large turn out of spectators.
The championship which took place simultaneously across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja. The 2026 tournament is aimed at discovering, nurturing and providing opportunities for young footballers to secure clubs within and outside the country.
Speaking shortly after the final match, the Principal of KTC, Comrade Abdu Usman Yarodescribed the performance of his students as well appreciated.
The Principal pledged that the school management will do everything possible to ensure a successful outing during the forthcoming zonal and national final stage later in the year.
Comrade Abdu Usman Yaro however, used the opportunity to commend Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unflinching support morally and financially towards the overall development of Various sporting activities in the state.
With this victory, KTC will now represent the state in the upcoming zonal elimination scheduled for September, this year.
The competition is to remembering and tribute to late Nigerian Football icon Samuel Okwaraji who tragically died on August 12, 1989 during a FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Angola at the National Stadium, Lagos.
