
JUST IN: Kano govt suspends water scheme manager over vandalization of project site
Kano state Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change has suspended the manager of Thomas and Ghari Regional Water Schemes.
The suspension was announced by the Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim ina statement on Monday evening.
Dr. Hashim said he ordered the immediate suspension of the manager following the vandalization of the water scheme project site.
The Commissioner expressed displeasure on the bad situation of the project site after an inspection visit on Monday.
According to him, the facilities, meant to serve three local government areas had been rendered non-functional for years.
He noted tha almost all electrical wiring stripped from generators and pumps, adding that the power project completed just three months ago in Thomas, which is yet to be commissioned, had already been looted.
Hashim further expressed disgust about the security personnel hired to protect the plant were found farming on its land.
“Today, I visited the Thomas and Ghari Regional Water Schemes, and what I found was deeply troubling.
“Facilities meant to serve three local government areas have remained non-functional for several years. We found almost all electrical wiring stripped from generators and pumps.
“A power project completed just three months ago in Thomas, which is yet to be commissioned, had already been looted. Furthermore, security personnel hired to protect the plant were found farming on its grounds.
“I have ordered the immediate suspension of the scheme’s Manager pending an investigation. Where criminal culpability is established, we will pursue full legal action
