AKCILS 50th MEMORABLE ANNIVERSARY ACCOMPLISHED COLOURFULLY
In what appears to be the historic gathering ever in the College, the cream of Academic Community from far and near yesterday converged on AKCILS to honour the historic and momentous occassion of the College 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
The grand occasion marks the final segment of the three-day lineup of activities organized to celebrate the historic 50th anniversary of the College.
Speaking during the occasion the College Provost, Professor Balarabe Abubakar Jakada, (Majidadin Kauran Katsina), expressed his profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the numerous achievements recorded by the College over the past five decades.
He noted that within these 50 remarkable years, a solid foundation has been laid for the provision of quality education not only for individuals but for the broader society at large. He further described the College as a pioneer institution of its kind in Nigeria which face the setter for its contemporaries to emerge in the country. Jakada emphasized that it introduced a unique model of education that harmonizes Islamic jurisprudence with modern legal and academic frameworks.
He highlighted that the College’s academic accomplishments have continued to receive wide recognition, particularly citing its outstanding performance in the recent accreditation exercise conducted by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). This achievement according to him led to the approval of additional 21 course combinations, bringing the total number of NCE programmes offered by the College to 52 in addition to the Diploma programmes in Civil and Shari’a Law which have been upgraded to National Diploma status.
The Provost also disclosed that the College Management is collaborating with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to facilitate a one-year direct entry into ND II for holders of Ordinary Diploma in Law and Shari’a.
On the College’s milestones and transformation, he mentioned the establishment of eight key directorates aimed at enhancing the administrative efficiency. He explained that the creation of the Centre for Continuing Education, which has now developed into a school offering eight degree programmes in affiliation with the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma. Other notable developments include the modernization of laboratories, mosques, offices, and recreational facilities.
The Provost expressed his deep appreciation to the Kano State Government for its sustained support and interventions to the College financial and infrastructural needs as well as to the Kano Emirate Council for its continued guidance and encouragement.
On his part,the Executive Governor of Kano State,Engr.Abba Kabir Yusuf who was represented at the occassion by the State Commissioner of Education Goni Dr.Ali Haruna Makoda congratulated the College for attaining this historic academic milestone.
“The College occupies a unique space in Education and transformation for the last five decades.This legacy cannot only be celebrated but also sustained.This College is not only a centre for learning but an engine of transformation and human guidance” The Governor explained.
The Emir of Kano Malam Muhammad Sunusi || recounted with nostalgia the five decades the College spent nurturing and shaping the minds of Distinguished personalities which includes reputable Judicial personnel which he described as the symbol of justice in the Society.
The fifteen tertiary Institutions greeted the event which includes Yusuf Maitama Sule University of Education Kano,Northwest University,Kano, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education and Sister Colleges of Education and legal Studies among others..
Notable personalities were honoured with award for their outstanding role in transforming the College which includes the Executive Governor of Kano State,Engr.Abba Kabir Yusuf,College Provost Prof.Balarabe Abubakar Jakada,Hon.Abubakar Kabir Bichi,member representing Bichi Federal constituency and a reknown philanthropist Alhaji Ibrahim Sabiu Linda.
A building was commissioned by the Emir Sunusi which was named after his royal personality.
