Nigerian Medical Association Sets Stage for Major Healthcare Outreach in Kano.
The Nigerian Medical Association has finalized arrangements for a large-scale healthcare outreach aimed at improving access to quality medical services across Kano State.
The initiative will be hosted at Gwarzo General Hospital and Gwale Comprehensive Hospital Filin Mushe, targeting thousands of patients in underserved communities.
Co-Chairman of the Kano chapter, Dr. Isyaku Mukhtar Gwarzo, disclosed this during an ongoing screening exercise, confirming that all logistics have been carefully put in place.
He explained that the outreach reflects the association’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and reaching vulnerable populations with essential services.
The National President, Dr. (Professor ) Bala Abdu, is expected to officially declare the program open at Gwarzo.
Activities will commence on April 27, 2026, in Gwarzo and continue the following day at Gwale, before transitioning into the association’s Annual General Meeting in Kano.
The outreach is designed to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services to a large number of beneficiaries across different communities.
Among the key interventions is the distribution of free eyeglasses to about two thousand individuals, alongside medical care for over five thousand patients.
Approximately five hundred patients are also scheduled to undergo various surgical procedures under the supervision of expert teams.
Comprehensive services will include General consultations, dental care, and specialized treatments, supported by thorough pre-surgical screenings.
Medical professionals have been mobilized nationwide to ensure the success of the program and maintain high standards of care.
The Kano State NMA Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahaman Ali, will host dignitaries, stakeholders, and partners expected at the event.
The outreach will also serve as a platform for collaboration and professional exchange among healthcare practitioners and institutions.
Key coordination efforts have been led by Dr. Nura Hassan Gwarzo, while surgical operations will be supervised by Dr. Abubakar Dahiru and eye care services handled by Dr. Hajara.
Meanwhile, Sub-Committee Chairman Professor Aminu Muhammad Gwarzo has urged the public to avoid self-medication, warning that taking drugs without professional prescription can lead to serious health complications.
He encouraged residents to seek proper medical advice and take full advantage of the free services provided during the outreach.
Strong community participation has already been recorded, with large numbers turning out for screening exercises at both locations.
The initiative is expected to leave a lasting impact on healthcare delivery in Kano, reinforcing the role of professional bodies in supporting public health.
