Hon. Labaran Abdul Madari, Minority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, representing Warawa constituency, has strongly condemned the defiance of the recent court order abolishing the validity of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) Chairman Sani Lawan Mainumfashi. This development has sparked concerns about the rule of law and democratic principles in the state.
Madari expressed surprise and disappointment that lawmakers, including Majority Leader Lawan Hussani Dala, are disregarding the law they created in 2001. He emphasized that this blatant disregard undermines the legitimacy of the legislative body and sets a dangerous precedent.

Madari cited Section 4B of the KANSIEC law, which clearly states that members of any political party should not hold key positions in the commission. He argued that Mainumfashi’s membership in a political party compromises his impartiality and legitimacy as chairman.
Furthermore, Madari criticized the appointment of the Commission secretary, pointing out that grade-level requirements were ignored. According to the law, only personnel at grade level 14 are eligible for the position. However, the current secretary holds a lower grade level, violating established regulations.
Madari warned that if the court order is continually disregarded, it may encourage the public to violate laws and court orders. This could lead to chaos and undermine the rule of law

Madari urged citizens to elect representatives who respect the laws of the land, prioritizing public interest over personal gain. He emphasized that the forthcoming local government elections, scheduled for next Saturday, are “dead on arrival” due to the commission’s illegitimate nature.
Madari cautioned that the law will not tolerate this defiance indefinitely. He asserted that consequences will follow, and those responsible will regret their actions sooner or later.
