Honourable Commissioner for Education, Kano State.

Chairman, Warawa Local Government Area.

All relevant stakeholders in the education sector.

Your Excellency,

I write this open letter with the utmost respect, sincerity, and a deep sense of responsibility as a concerned citizen who genuinely desires the continued success of your administration and the progress of Kano State.

This letter is not intended to criticize your government but to draw your personal attention to a matter of great public importance that appears not to have received the urgent attention it deserves.

Education remains the foundation upon which every prosperous society is built. Any government that invests in education invests in the future of its people. It is because of this conviction that I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to urgently intervene in the unfortunate condition of Government Technical College (GTC), Warawa.

Your Excellency, although Warawa Local Government Area is only a short distance from Kano metropolis, the condition of GTC Warawa is heartbreaking and inconsistent with the educational vision of your administration. Anyone who visits the school cannot help but feel sorrow for the students who live and study under such difficult circumstances.

The buildings have deteriorated significantly, many classrooms and hostels are in deplorable condition, and learning facilities are grossly inadequate. Even more disturbing is the fact that the school reportedly lacks a reliable water supply, forcing students to leave the school premises daily to fetch water near the Local Government Secretariat. This situation is unacceptable for a government-owned technical institution that is expected to prepare young people with practical skills for the future.

Your Excellency, the condition of this school does not only affect the students. It also affects the reputation of Warawa Local Government and, by extension, the image of the Kano State Government. Parents, visitors, and members of the public who witness the state of the school often express disappointment, and many question why such an important institution has been neglected for so long.

I firmly believe that this situation may not have been fully brought to your personal attention. Those entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring public schools and reporting their condition may not have adequately informed Your Excellency about the seriousness of the challenges facing GTC Warawa.

For this reason, I respectfully appeal that Your Excellency personally visit the school without prior notice. I am confident that seeing the realities on the ground firsthand will provide a clearer understanding than any written report. Knowing your compassion, commitment to education, and concern for the welfare of the people, I believe such a visit would inspire immediate action.

It is important to emphasize that the principal, teachers, and other school staff should not be blamed for this unfortunate situation. Many of them continue to perform their duties under extremely difficult conditions. They require the support of government, not criticism.

I also respectfully call upon all elected representatives from Warawa and Dawakin Kudu, including the Distinguished Senator, the Honourable Member of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Member of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Chairman of Warawa Local Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, education officials, and other stakeholders to unite in ensuring that this institution receives the attention it urgently requires.

Education should never become a victim of political differences. Whether one belongs to the ruling party or the opposition, every citizen has a moral obligation to speak for the welfare of our children. Constructive criticism offered in good faith should be welcomed because it strengthens governance and promotes accountability.

GTC Warawa serves students from different parts of Kano State, not only indigenes of Warawa. Consequently, its success or failure reflects on the entire state. Allowing such an important technical institution to continue deteriorating would undermine the state’s efforts to promote technical and vocational education, youth empowerment, and economic development.

We respectfully appeal for the following urgent actions:-

1. A personal inspection visit by His Excellency to Government Technical College, Warawa.

2. Immediate rehabilitation of dilapidated classrooms, hostels, laboratories, workshops, and administrative buildings.

3. Provision of a sustainable water supply for students and staff.

4. Renovation of sanitation facilities and improvement of the school’s learning environment.

5. Provision of adequate furniture, teaching equipment, and technical workshop materials.

6. Establishment of a regular maintenance programme to prevent further deterioration.

7. Allocation of sufficient budgetary resources for the continued development of technical education across Kano State.

Your Excellency, history remembers leaders not only for the roads they construct but also for the schools they rebuild, the children they educate, and the opportunities they create for future generations. Restoring GTC Warawa would stand as a lasting legacy of your commitment to educational development and human capital investment.

As citizens, our responsibility is to draw attention to genuine public concerns. Your responsibility, as the elected Governor of Kano State, is to provide leadership and ensure that no community or institution is left behind. We are confident that your administration possesses both the capacity and the compassion to address this issue.

Attached photographs of the school further illustrate the current condition of the institution. They are presented solely to support this appeal and to provide visual evidence of the urgent need for intervention.

We respectfully urge Your Excellency to treat this appeal as a matter of priority. Every day of delay is another day in which hundreds of young Nigerians pursue their education under conditions that fall below acceptable standards.

May Almighty Allah continue to grant Your Excellency wisdom, good health, strength, and success in serving the people of Kano State.

Thank you for your attention and anticipated intervention.

Yours faithfully,

Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
